Procreate is an iPad illustration and painting app for artists who want a portable digital studio, from quick sketches to layered professional artwork.
What it does More than 300 brushes, a customizable Brush Studio, layers, blend modes, selections and effects support drawing and painting. Apple Pencil input, QuickShape, drawing assistance and gestures help refine marks without interrupting the process. Page Assist organizes sketches, time-lapse records the work, and 3D painting adds textures to supported models. Procreate Pocket brings a related experience to iPhone; Procreate Dreams is a separate animation and video-compositing app.
Pricing — checked 21 October 2026 (USD) The US App Store lists Procreate for iPad at $12.99 as a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Pocket is $5.99, and Dreams is currently $12.99; these are separate purchases rather than a bundled license. Regional App Store prices can differ. Compatible Apple hardware and optional accessories cost extra, as can third-party brushes and assets. The app does not sell unlimited cloud rendering or generative-AI credits; practical canvas and layer capacity depend on the device.
Their story Australian company Savage Interactive launched Procreate in March 2011. Co-founder James Cuda and the Hobart-based team built around the idea that approachable, affordable tools should amplify an artist's own skills. The company has expanded into animation while publicly committing not to add generative AI to its creative apps.
